Who Chooses: End of Life Decision Making and Persons with Disabilities

Tuesday, May 31/11: Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities (MLPD) and Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) Forum: "Who Chooses: End of Life Decision Making and People with Disabilities." In Manitoba, the College of Physicians and Surgeons has given doctors the power to deny or withdraw life-sustaining treatment without the consent of patients and their families. Persons living with disabilities fear this power could result in life-saving treatment being withheld from them in the mistaken belief that their disabilities justify letting them die.

People First of Manitoba . . . needs your help!

INVOLVE . . . INSPIRE . . . INCLUDE

People First of Canada is an organization directed and controlled by people who have been labelled with an intellectual disability.

Our vision of People First is of a movement of people who want all citizens to live equally in the community.

Our goals include promoting equality for all people who have been labelled, speaking for ourselves and making our own decisions, and educating the community about our movement and our issues. We are currently seeking volunteers to be advisors for our provincial and local chapters in Manitoba.

If you are interested in this unique volunteer opportunity, please contact:

Christine Currie at (204) 230-2191 or Valerie Wolbert at (204) 295-9648 for additional information on the role of an "Advisor" in the People First movement.
